About the programme
This programme is designed to provide a space for transforming personal and organisational approaches to anti-racist practice. With a mix of small-group online work and whole-group in-person sessions, you will be guided through a personal, challenging and transformative journey rooted in anti-oppressive practice following the process of decolonisation outlined by Poka Laenui:
Learning and Unlearning
Mourning
Dreaming
Commitment
Action
Your facilitators will guide you to rethink your understanding of racism and whiteness, to explore your own relationship to power and to imagine and design life-affirming alternatives in your leadership that centre racial justice.
Programme aims
The programme will open with a whole group kick off and contracting session. Your cohort learning then follows the following seven parts:
Grounding in theory: What are race, racism, racialisation, white supremacy and intersectionality?
Positionality and power: reflecting on our personal relationships to systems of oppression
Putting racism into context: Race, colonialism and the charity sector
White Supremacy Culture in leadership
The Transformational Journey
Accountability leads to justice, solidarity and liberation
Committing to action
Each workshop is 3 hours long and delivered on Zoom. During the workshops you will be supported by your facilitators to explore theory, key concepts and frameworks for anti-racism. You will also participate in discussions and activities that will allow you to put the learning into your context.
You will also have a group Miro board, a workbook (optional) and an incredible set of resources to extend your learning. Between each session you will be assigned homework tasks and rotating buddies so that you continue to learn and build cohort accountability to learning outside of the sessions. Homework tasks are creative and designed to enable deeper reflection and support leaders to share their learning and test out some frameworks with their own teams.
The programme will close with a whole group session to set collective commitments and celebrate the life-affirming and transformational journey of the programme. Leaders will be able to access after care support for the implementation of their learning as an alumni of the programme.
