About Dr Sanjiv Lingayah 

Sanjiv lays cable for anti-racist futures. He is founder and director at Reframing Race, a non-profit research-based initiative that exists to change the conversation on racism in service of life-affirming futures. He was co-creator of Home Truths and Home Truths 2 (in partnership with ACEVO and Voice4Change England) – on racism and anti-racism in white-led civil society.

Power, Justice and Accountability: The Anti-Racism Leadership Course

“We cling to deadlines as though they are going to be the anchor of certainty in a world that feels completely out of our control. 
 
One of my favourite things to reflect on with clients is urgency, and how deadline culture is fuelling burnout, apathy and can stop people from taking the time they need to develop their anti-racist practice and build relationships of solidarity. 
 
Now don't get me wrong, some deadlines we need. As someone with ADHD, if you don't tell me when, you ain't getting the thing. But which deadlines are actually important and how do we discern what is urgent and what isn't? 
 
Where I'm standing, ecological collapse, the rise of fascism, the erosion of our civil liberties, the selling of our data, [insert other terrifying thing] is a lot more urgent than getting an executive summary to our boards. But that's just me. 
 
So yes, a lot of deadlines are arbitrary, including the deadline to apply for Power Justice and Accountability (which was at the weekend). We literally plucked it out of thin air and now here we are - if you are committed to the work of anti-racist practice, then please do apply. We want you on the programme.”
